George David Hixson, 75, of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born April 6, 1936 in Wilmington, the son of the late Charles T. and Florice Gray Hixson.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. Weiss. He had recently worked at Smyth Automotive, and loved to fish and camp.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Hanenkrat Hixson, to whom he was married Aug. 11, 1996 in Nashville, Tenn.; children, Debbie (Frank) Stephens of Hillsboro, Kathy Williamson of Hillsboro, Holly Cremeans of Rainsboro, David (Susan) Hixson of Chillicothe, Capt. Robert Hixson, United States Air Force, Norman, Okla., Katina (David) Duncan of Lynchburg, Brian (Tammy) West of Hillsboro, and Kristi Waters of Chillicothe; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; best friends Charles Cluff of Hillsboro, Larry Carson of Leesburg, and Fred Patterson of Mason; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Burial with military honors accorded by the Highland County Honor Guard will follow in the Prospect Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to Community Care Hospice, P.O. Box 123, Wilmington, Ohio 45177.
