Florence E. Welder, 92, of Hillsboro, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 at her residence.
She was born Aug. 17, 1918 in Canonsburg, Pa., the daughter of the late Edward B. and Jesse Fowler Emerson. Florence graduated first in her high school class at Canonsburg High School and second in her class at Waynesburg College in Pennsylvania.
She is survived by three children, Paul (Krista) Welder of Staunton, Va., David Welder of Greensboro, N.C., and Dr. Linda (Lanny Saunders) Welder of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren, including Justin and Jared Saunders of Hillsboro; nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Les (D.J.) Emerson of Pittsburgh, Pa.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Basil Welder, in 2000, and one brother, Joe Emerson.
A celebration of Florence's life will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair, Pa. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be directed to the Highland County Dog Pound, 9357 State Rt. 124, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133; or the Highland County Humane Society, 9331 State Rte. 124, P.O. Box 471, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
