Everett J. Long

Everett J. Long, 82, of Bainbridge passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe, after a long battle with heart and kidney disease.
He was born April 29, 1931 in Ross County, the son of the Virgil “Dub” and Esther Yoakum Long.
He is survived his wife of 60 years, Sylvia V. Yoakum Long; three children, Theresa (Chuck) Knowlton of Etna, Keith (Nancy) Long of Florissant, Mo. and Jennifer (Jeff) Cossin of Reynoldsburg; six grandchildren, Phillip (Heather) Ebersbach, Patrick (Cheri) Long, Abby Long, Amanda Queen, Cody and Tiffany Cossin; stepgreat-granddaughter, Caley Lucas; two sisters, Marcella Yoakem and Linda (Roger) Waggoner; brother, Jim (Kitty) Long; sister-in-law, Ginger Long and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Detty; and brother, David Long.
Everett was a 1949 graduate of Twin High School, 1960 graduate of Ohio University and an Army veteran. He retired in 1989 from AT&T after 29 years and he was a member of the Eagles FOE 1325 of Greenfield, Deep Creek Elk Lodge 2763 of Punta Gorda, Fla., and a member and past treasurer of American Legion Post 14 of Bainbridge. He was also a member and past president of Highland Golf Course in Pataskala.
Everett was an avid golfer who loved to fish, bowl and play cards.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Smith-Moore-Ebright Funeral Home of Bainbridge with the Rev. Dane Knapp officiating. Burial will follow in the Twin Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and an hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
