Everett Griffith, Jr., 85, of Hillsboro, died Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Dayton V.A. Medical Center.
He was born Wednesday, March 19, 1924 in Folsom, Ohio, the son of the late Everett A. Griffith and the late Margaret Theiss Griffith.
He was a member of the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene and Hillsboro American Legion, and a life member of the Hillsboro VFW. He received the American Veterans Citizenship Award in 2007. He was a former Paint Township and Washington Township Trustee, a member of the Highland County Fair Board for 18 years, a 4-H advisor and recipient of the Friends of 4-H award, a member of the Highland County Trailbreakers, a former director of the State Charlois Association, and a lifelong farmer in Highland County. He also drove a school bus for many years. Everett was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
Surviving are his wife, Martha R. Griffith, whom he married Dec. 25, 1948; a daughter, Jane A. (Jeff) McCoy of Hillsboro; a son, Michael A. (Jeannie) Griffith of Sabina; a sister, Velma McCoy of Folsom; seven grandchildren, Sarah McCoy of Hillsboro, Jacob (Joanne) Griffith of Franklin, Rachel (Matt) Winkle of Hillsboro, Zachary (Jessica) Griffith of Leesburg, Seth (Randi) McCoy of Hillsboro, Clint McCoy of Hillsboro, and Jessy Griffith of Sabina; five great-grandchildren, Alex Griffith, Aiden Griffith, Corbin Winkle, Rani Griffith, and Claire Winkle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Clara E. Beatty, and an infant daughter, Janice E. Griffith.
Friends will be received 4-8 p.m. Sunday, March 7 at the Hillsboro Church of The Nazarene, Hillsboro, Ohio.
Services will be held at Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene, Monday, March 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Tom Zile officiating.
Interment will follow in the Stringtown Cemetery .
Contributions may be made to the Highland County Veterans Service Commission, 135 North High Street, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133 in his memory.
