Evelyn I. Staats, 89, of Columbus, formerly of Bainbridge, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2011 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
She was born May 23, 1922 in Ross County, the daughter of Addison Elsworth and Hannah Mazetta (Hurless) Cokonougher.
She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Greenfield. She was an avid western square dancer with her husband. She was a longtime employee of the U.S. Shoe Factory in Greenfield and was a 1940 graduate of Buckskin High School.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Eugene Staats, whom she married June 7, 1941; two daughters, Dawn Olivia McCathrin of Galloway and Karen Louise (Charles) Hazlett of Columbus; two grandchildren, Jason Kenneth Morgan of Japan and Kirsten Leigh McCutcheon of Westerville; five great grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Staats; three sisters, Helen Smith, Audrey Fordyce and Hazel Hollar; and one brother, Harold Elsworth Cokonougher.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec.30, 2011 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Larry Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in South Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday.
