Ernest Eugene Shumaker, 83, of Greenfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 at OSU Medical Center in Columbus.

He was born Jan. 31, 1928 in Fayette County to Earl W. and Dorothy I. (Everhart) Shumaker.

Mr. Shumaker was a retired construction worker and served as a township trustee for Paint Township in Ross County. He was a member of the Antique Tractor Club in Greenfield, Washington C.H. and Paint Valley and a member of the Fruitdale United Methodist Church. He served in the Ohio National Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice (Mick) Shumaker, whom he married Feb. 3, 1949; three daughters, Carolyn Sue (Donald) Owens, Carol Anne (Keith) Grate and Pattie (Charles “Skip” Hamilton) Adams, all of Greenfield; one son, Tim Shumaker of Chillicothe; 10 grandchildren, Michael Owens of Circleville, Jeremy (Charity) Owens of Laurelville, Chad (Nicole) Richmond of Leesburg, Jamie (Eric) Huff of Highland, Andrea (Don) Tebbe of Fayetteville, N.C., Bobbie Jo Soales of Chillicothe, Jessica Hickok of Marysville, Robert Shumaker of Montana, Allison Adams of Greenfield and Courtney Adams of Greenfield; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dale (Yolanda) Shumaker of Shepherdsville, Ky., Robert (Ruth) Shumaker of Greenfield, and Dane (Anna) Shumaker of Morningview, Ky.; one sister, Eleanor (Ron) Dowler of Washington C.H.; and many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Jimmy (Mary) Mick of South Salem.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandy Shumaker; one infant son, Randy Shumaker; one infant brother, Everett Lee Shumaker; one infant sister, Helen Shumaker; and both parents.

Services will be held Monday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Rev. Marlin Penwell officiating. Burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, Feb. 6 from 1-5 p.m.
