Eileen Ruth Salter, 87, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at her home.
She was born Nov. 6, 1924, in London, England, the daughter of the late John William and Emily Rose (Baglee) Taylor.
Eileen and Edwin B. "Ted" Salter were married in Kenton, Middlesex, England on Sept. 21, 1946. Along with her husband, she entered the United States and moved to Chicago, Ill. on Oct. 8, 1950. They then moved to Los Angeles, Calif. in 1953, and Eileen became a U.S. citizen in 1957. She was a singer and variety arts performer, particularly puppetry of all types. Eileen and Ted appeared on several television shows, including "Truth or Consequences" and "To Tell the Truth" in the 1960s, as well as several short films. She retired from the University of Southern California as an administrative assistant of the Dept. of Gerontology. They moved to Hillsboro in 1989, where they made many friends.
She is survived by cousins Doreen (Jim) Grant of Victoria, Australia and Dorothy Farmer of Queensland, Australia; two goddaughters, Claudia (Ward) Bushee of San Francisco and Melody (Brandon) Heikes of Corvallis, Ore.; a godson, Patrick (Sherri) Thompson of Billings, Mont.; as well as special friends Leland and Ellen Pennington of Lynchburg and Glenna Walker of Hillsboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Edwin B. "Ted" Salter, on June 19, 2001; an older sister who died during infancy; her stepfather, Edward "Ted" Martin; and a cousin, Les Farmer.
In keeping with her wishes, she was cremated. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
