Dr. George Harrison Pommert, 81, of Washington C.H., passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Court House Manor.

He was born Sept. 30, 1931, the son of George Harrison Pommert and Lilian C. (Armentrout) Pommert.

He retired in 2011, after practicing as an orthodontist in Washington C.H. from 1969-2011, as a general dentist from 1958-68, and was a clinical assistant professor at OSU Graduate Orthodontic Department from 1974-2011.

He was a 1949 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School, received his B.A. in pre-dentistry from Ohio Wesleyan in 1953, his D.D.S. from OSU College of Dentistry in 1956, and his master of science in orthodontics from OSU College of Dentistry in 1969.

He was a past president of the Rotary Club in Washington C.H., Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity while at Ohio Wesleyan, member of Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society and graduated with honors. He was a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, and the OSU Dental Alumni Society.

He served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps from 1956-58 as a captain and was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Washington C.H. He was a longtime golfer, a member of the Washington Country Club for 55 years, season ticket holder for 45 years for OSU football and basketball games, OSU President’s Club Member, and an accomplished basketball player at McClain High School and Ohio Wesleyan.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Jean (Hope) Pommert, whom he married Aug. 16, 1953; one son, Steve Pommert of Reston, Va.; one daughter, Susan (Pommert) Cupp of Crestwood, Ky.; two grandchildren, Christopher Cupp of Smyrna, Ga. and Phillip Cupp of Crestwood, Ky.; two sisters, Marguerite Penn of Greenfield and Thelma Coffey of Greenfield; one brother, John D. Pommert of Joplin, Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Col. Charles J. Pommert; and both parents.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 8 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield, with Pastor Jim Kiger officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
