Dorothy R. Smith, 87 of Leesburg, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 at her home.

She was born June 3, 1927, in New Lexington, the daughter of the late William Guy and Isabel (Palmer) Rose.

She was a member of the Leesburg Friends Church, where she attended with her husband and children. She worked for the Army Corps. of Engineers upon graduation. She also worked at the Hull Pottery in Crooksville. She also served as a babysitter for many families. She worked at Candle-Lite for 24 years. She was a grandma at Hills and Dales. She once belonged to the W.C.T.U., and served as the secretary/treasurer.

She was a member of the U.S.F.W. of the church where she served as secretary/treasurer for many years. She had belonged to the Town and Country Homemakers Group. For many years, she worked on the Board of Elections for Leesburg West. She was a den mother for the Cub Scout Troup and belonged to the Lee-Hi Campers Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Rev. John) Fitzgerald; and her son, William (Donna) Smith, both of Leesburg. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Beth (Devin) Sparks of Highland and Kristy (Scott) May of Leesburg; six great-grandchildren, Lane Sparks, Annabeth Sparks, Abbeygail Sparks, Kylee May, Kendall May and Mariah May; three brothers-in-law, Donald Marshall of Chillicothe, Jack Elkins of Bowersville and Gene Aber of Hillsboro; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Smith, on Feb. 23, 1986; and her sisters, Bernease Marshall, Jennie Elkins and Shirley Aber.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 at the Leesburg Friends Church. The Rev. John Fitzgerald will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hardins Creek Cemetery at Bridges.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the Leesburg Friends Church.
