Dorothy Jeanne (Schroyer) Leydig, 91, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1919 in Stoystown, Pa., to George and Anna Schroyer. Her father was a coal mine supervisor and her mother was a telephone operator. She had one brother, Victor Merle Schroyer, deceased.
Jeanne never liked being called Dorothy and usually signed her name D. Jeanne. She married Herbert Lester Leydig on Feb. 7, 1941 and resided in Hyndman, Pa. She was a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward and Co. in Cumberland, Md. Herbert was a salesman for Sears Roebuck and Co. and later, Montgomery Ward and Co.
They had three children. Judi Ann (Larry) Wiley is an Episcopal priest in Hillsboro. Larry Lee (Kay, deceased) worked for Sprint and is retired. He lives in Lady Lake, Fla. Robert Lynn (Irma) has his own business as an independent carpenter and lives in McKinney, Texas.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jeanne was recently confirmed in the Episcopal Church in Hillsboro and attended there until she became ill. She lived with Judi and her husband in Hillsboro. She loved to play cards, bingo, and other board games. She was very social and loved to give parties and have guests. She was involved in a seniors group in Hillsboro as well as working in the church nursery. (Jeanne was a great cook and when the grandchildren heard she was cooking, they came running!)
She was a resident of Heartland of Hillsboro Nursing home for nine months before she died on Oct. 7, 2011.
Visitation will be at Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro on Monday, Oct. 10 from 6-8 pm.
A memorial service, led by the Rev. Maurice Mitchell, is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 234 N High Street, Hillsboro.
There also will be a visitation be at Zeigler Funeral Home in Hyndman, Pa., on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. A memorial service, led by her daughter, the Rev. Judi Wiley, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. at Zeigler Funeral Home, with interment at Madley Cemetery. She will be buried beside her husband in Hyndman, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Hope.
