Dorothy Hamilton Cox, 94, of Leesburg, died Saturday, June, 23, 2012 at the Fayette County Memorial Hospital in Washington C.H.

She was born Aug. 15, 1917 in Highland County, the daughter of the late Albert and Lyndall Inez Tompkins Hamilton.

She had worked at Candle-lite in Leesburg where she was the specialty candles maker, and she designed the candle for the Chicago Centennial Celebration. While working at Candle-Lite, she also baked many specialty cakes for family and friends. During the war, she worked at the Randall Company in New Vienna where she made hand grenades. She was an avid quilter making more than 100 quilts. Among the many awards she has won for quilting at the Highland County Fair is the “People’s Choice Award”, “1st Place”, and “Best in Show.”

She is survived by 10 children, John A. (Carol Sue) Cox of Huber Heights, John (Jan) Cox of Faucet, Missouri, Elizabeth (Walter) Clifton of Sabina, Nancy (Gene) Jarrell of Sabina, Marilyn (Raymond) Thompson of Hillsboro, William (Elaine) Cox of Raleigh, N.C., Joseph Cox of Palmetto, Fla., Roger (Brenda) Cox of Hillsboro, Cheryl Savage of Idaho, Ohio, and Dorothy (Joe) Cox of Leesburg; 32 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 10 great- great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Cox, in 1969; infant daughter Betty Mae Cox; two sisters, Thelma Cox and Audrey Osborn; grandson Jimmy Cox; and granddaughter Pamela Cox.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 28 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Troy Villars will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
