David “Dave” Arthur McCall, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024.

He was born in August of 1935 in Jamestown, the son of WWII veteran Arthur J. McCall and Mother, Lola (Ratliff) McCall, both of whom preceded him in passing.

An accomplished musician, Dave could, as some said, “Play anything with strings on it.” That talent earned him a place in the Ohio Country Music Hall of Fame in 2023. Although he could have performed on any of this country’s greatest stages, his stage was that of his wife and children, needing only their love as applause, and he loved them unconditionally in return. Dave will be remembered as a friend to many in the Lynchburg community, always willing to help anyone and definitely quick to make a person smile and laugh.

After graduating high school in 1953 from Lynchburg-Clay High, he spent time in the Pacific Northwest, working in the logging industry. Duty soon called, and he enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Upon return to the states, Dave settled in Lynchburg and married his wife and “Sweet Love,” Ruthetta (Brewer) McCall, who also preceded him in passing in 2022. Their devotion to one another never wavered over 66 years together.

That union produced a legacy of five children and spouses, Marty (Julie) McCall, Doug (Bonnie) McCall, Missi (Dave) McCall-West, Jeff (Vivian) McCall and Michele (Chris) McCall-Michael; as well as 12 grandchildren; Joshua, Jeffrey, Dawn, Casie, Terrence (Colt), Jaclyn, Mikaila, Zackari, Bransen, Bailee, Westyn and Lauren; along with several great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held Monday, Nov. 4, 2024 at the Allensburg Church of Christ. All friends and family are invited to visit between the hours of 11 a.m. and noon. The celebration service will begin at noon. Graveside services with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be accepted to benefit Trustwell Living at Bell Gardens Place, 251 Harry Sauner Rd., Hillsboro 45133. Davis-Turner Funeral Home is serving the family.
