C.W. Smith, 98, of Bainbridge, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011 at his home.

He was born Jan. 21, 1913 in Greenfield, the son of Charles O. and Olive (Miller) Smith.

He retired in 1978 from Kibler Company in Cincinnati, where he was employed as a boiler operator. After retirement, he enjoyed farming, looking after his horses and cattle and operating his John Deere 730.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Hounshell) Smith, whom he married on June 10, 1976; three sons, Larry "Bubby" Hounshell of Bainbridge, Dennis Lee (Brenda) Johnson of Cincinnati and David Lee (Stacey) Johnson of Washington C.H.; grandchildren Dane Charles Smith, Alexandra, John, Jason, Amber, Quinton, Ethan and Brianna Johnson, Johnny Endress and Joshua Goodman; two great-grandchildren, Dane Smith and Angela Doan; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Roma Blazer of Columbus; two nephews Howard Smith of Greenfield and Charlie Smith of Bainbridge; one niece, Louanna Penn of Greenfield; and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Holly Lynn Smith; one son, Dane Weldon Smith; one daughter-in-law, Glenna Smith; one granddaughter, Carla Smith; three brothers, Harold, Floyd and Howard Russell Smith; one sister, O'Dell Stokes; and both parents.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Greg Trent officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery. A visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17.
