Charles W. Speelman, 84, of Hillsboro died Monday, July 30, 2012 at his home.

He was born Oct. 1, 1927 in New Vienna, the son of the late John and Mary Helen Warrick Speelman.

Mr. Speelman had retired from Cincinnati Milicron with 27 years of service. He was a member of the Buford Church of Christ, where he had served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Griffith Speelman, whom he married on Feb. 12, 1950; one son, Gary Lee (Patricia) Speelman of Kingston; three grandchildren, Chris (Shannon) Speelman of San Diego, Calif., Becky Schamehorn of Circleville, and Andrew (Samantha Shannon) Speelman of Kingston; three great-grandchildren, Brooke, Hannah and Matthew Schamehorn; one brother, William “Bill” Speelman of Xenia; and one sister, Ida Mae (Bob) Rapp of Xenia.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Hugh Hurley will officiate. Burial, with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard, will follow in the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg.
