Charles Merrill Florence, 76, of Lynchburg, died Monday, May 7, 2012 at his home.
He was born Feb. 18, 1936 in Henley, Ohio the son of the late Charles C. and Daisy Jodrey Florence.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War, and retired after many years of service to the Irwin Auger Bit Company in Wilmington. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and had farmed in the Lynchburg area many years. He was a life member of the Hillsboro V.F.W. Post #9094 and member of the Rocky Fork AMVETS Post #61, Hillsboro Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1161 and the Lynchburg Masonic Lodge #178.
He is survived by his companion of 30 years, Patricia Ann Whitenack; children, David (Glenna) Florence of Lynchburg, Lori (Mark) Scott of Portsmouth, John Florence of Florence, Ky., Jackie Robinson of Wilmington, Brian (Emily) Whitenack of Wilmington and Eric (Ashli) Whitenack of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Travis (Ashley) Florence of Lynchburg, Andrew Scott and Tyler Scott of Portsmouth, Melissa (Michael) Chamblin of Peebles, Carrie Florence of Hillsboro, Nathaniel Florence and Jacob Florence of Bethlehem, Pa., Kurt (Lea) Robinson, Kyle Robinson and Kevin Robinson all of Lynchburg, Brook Baughn of Lynchburg, Samantha Whitenack of Wilmington and Michael Whitenack of Lynchburg; 14 great grandchildren; and his best friend Chick.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Jean Miller and Audrene Brady.
Funeral and committal services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Everyone is invited to calling hours on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home, Lynchburg. The Highland County Honor Guard will accord military honors at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Friday.
Memorial donations are directed to Hospice of Hope, 215 Hughes Boulevard, Mt. Orab, Ohio 45154.
