Charles E. Carter, 93, of Washington C.H., went to be with the Lord, Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 at his home.
He was born Nov. 6, 1918 in Highland County, the son of Charles H. and Helen (Brown) Carter.
He was a member of The Gathering Place in Washington C.H. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired in 1983 from Armco Steel products in Washington C.H. after 31 years of service. His family says that he was "the best father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and sweetheart in the whole wide world."
He is survived by his wife, Ethel (Lewis) Carter, whom he married on April 10, 1941; two sons, Phillip W. (Dawn) Carter of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Charles E. (Vicki) Carter, Jr. of Chillicothe; one daughter, Mary Jane Carter of Washington C.H.; five grandchildren, Patricia (Michael) Wenger of Colorado Springs, Colo., Paula (Ronnie) Kassel of Aurora, Colo., Phil (Julie) Carter of Washington C.H., James (Dawn) Carter of Washington C.H. and Renee (Roger) Loyd of Washington C.H.; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons, Scott (Debbie) Dyke of Chillicothe and Todd (Amber) Dyke of Richmond Dale; four step-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Richard (Linda) Carter of Circleville, Dean (Edna) Carter, Joseph Carter and Norman (Barbara) Carter, all of Frankfort; one sister, Ruth Glandon of Frankfort; one brother-in-law, Leo (Rachel) Lewis of Leesburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John Carter; one sister, Jane Smith; and both parents.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 at Grace Community Church, 525 Glenn Ave., Washington C.H. with Pastors John Pfeifer and Todd Kritzwiser officiating. Burial to follow in Highlawn Cemetery with military rites to be performed by the Fayette County Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Community Church.
