Carl James “Shorty” McGinnis, 52, of Greenfield, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Adena Greenfield Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 26, 1960, in Hillsboro, the son of David L. and and Shirley M. (Edington) McGinnis.

He was a retired general contractor and mechanic, and was a 1978 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School.

He is survived by two sons, Jeremy A. (Jeanne Shannon) McGinnis of Greenfield and Nicholas S. (Samantha Birkhimer) McGinnis of Hillsboro; one daughter, Heather D. (James B.) Beatty of Greenfield; one granddaughter, Emmagry Heaven; six grandsons, Christopher Allen, Tyler James, Jordan Ray, Levi, Noah Scott, and Landon Matthew; one brother, David L. “Mac” McGinnis, Jr. of Florida; one sister, Martha McGinnis of Dayton; two nieces, Andrea and Hillary; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and both parents.

Cremation will take place, followed by a graveside service at the Greenfield Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

There will be no visitation.

The Murray-Fettro Funeral Home of Greenfield is serving the family.
