Arthur David Thorne, 81, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2024 at home.
 
He was born June 10, 194, to Arthur Harry and Catherine (Grell) Thorne, of Medford, N.J., where he grew up on a blueberry farm.
 
David was a 1961 graduate of Lenape Regional High School; a 1965 graduate of Cedarville College, earning his bachelor of science; and a 1966 graduate of Central State University earning his bachelor of education.
 
He was an educator for over 35 years at the Greenfield Exempted Village Schools. As an avid sports enthusiast, he was involved in the McClain Athletic program for many years, coaching baseball, football and basketball. After retirement, he worked for the Department of Natural Resources at the Paint Creek State Park Marina. He attended the Fall Creek Friends Church.
 
He is survived by his wife, Melissa (Karnes) Thorne whom he married July 10, 1980; two daughters, Catherine (Charlton) Braganza of Louisville, Ky. and Emma (Doug) Gall of Greenfield; one son, Robert Thorne of Greenfield; three grandchildren, Aaron, Blake and Cameron; and several nieces and nephews.  
 
He was preceded in death by three sisters, June Thorne, Susan Davis and Barbara Tressler; and both parents.
 
A private funeral service will be at the convenience of the family.
 
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m. at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield.
