Rep. Peterson supports bill to eliminate quotas for law enforcement

COLUMBUS – State Representative Bob Peterson (R-Sabina) is pleased to announce that the Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 131, bipartisan legislation to prohibit law enforcement agencies from using quotas for arrests and citations.

The measure aims to shift the culture in Ohio to prioritize the quality of police work over the quantity of tickets written, building positive relationships between community members and their law enforcement officers. Under current law, it is legal to mandate that an officer issue a certain number of tickets each day.

“I appreciate the work of our excellent law enforcement officers and know that their focus is on protecting and serving the public,” said Peterson. “I was glad to support this important common-sense legislation that clarifies this requirement.”

The legislation received support from the law enforcement community and civil justice reform advocates.

House Bill 131 awaits consideration from the Ohio Senate.
