Rep. Peterson addresses drought in 91st District; offers resources

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Bob Peterson (R-Sabina) announced that a new report released by the National Drought Mitigation revealed that large portions of Southern Ohio and the entire 91st House District, Fayette, Highland, Pike and Ross counties are experiencing severe drought.
 
The U.S. Drought Monitor shows parts of the U.S. in drought. The map uses five classifications: abnormally dry (D0), showing areas that may be going into or coming out of drought, and four levels of drought: moderate (D1), severe (D2), extreme (D3), and exceptional (D4). All the counties in the 91st House District are D3, qualifying the area for assistance from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA).
 
“Our area is currently experiencing extremely dry conditions that are putting a strain on our livestock, crops, and water resources,” said Peterson. “I encourage those who are having these hardships to document the issues and report them to the USDA Ohio FSA.”
 
When a county is at a level D3 or above, residents qualify for federal assistance programs. A complete list of USDA disaster assistance programs can be found in the document attached.
 
“The USDA has numerous programs for our producers to take advantage of,” Peterson continued. “I encourage you to take the time to review the resources available and share the information with others.”
 
Peterson will continue to provide updates and resources as the issue develops.
 
State Rep. Bob Peterson is currently serving his first term as State Representative for the 91st Ohio House District, which includes all of Fayette, Highland and Pike counties and western Ross County.
