OSH Patrol investigating serious injury crash
Fayetteville – The Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a serious injury crash involving a garbage truck and van. The crash occurred on January 27 at 7:25 a.m. on state Route 123 just east of U.S. 68, Perry Township, Brown County.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2023 Chevrolet Express Van, operated by James M. Ostendorf, 39, of Lynchburg, was traveling westbound on state Route 123.
A 2021 International HV607 garbage truck was stationary facing westbound at a garbage pick-up location with flashing lights activated. Mr. Ostendorf failed to maintain assured clear distance and struck the rear of the garbage truck.
The operator of the garbage truck was outside of the vehicle, outside the traffic lanes and was not injured.
Mr. Ostendorf received serious life-threatening injuries and was transported from the scene by a medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Georgetown Post.
