The Leesburg Luminaria Court is flanked by Leesburg Lions Club member Raymond Friend and president of the local Lions Club Jay Newland. The royal members are from left: Princess Aubree Eidenier, Prince Lucas Shoemaker, Queen Callia Parker, and King Gabriel Matthews.

The students are Fairfield students from Ellen Binegar’s sixth-grade English/Language Arts class. With this assignment to express, “What the Luminaria means to me,” Binegar says she allows free rein for the writers to be creative with their essays, diverging a bit from the standard composition rules.

These writers impressed the judges from the high school senior class. The essay with the most votes for boys and girls made its author king and queen, respectively, and the runners-up became the prince and princess.
