The consequences of the Biden-Harris Administration's open-borders policies

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, the House Judiciary Committee and its Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement released an interim report regarding Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana, a 19-year-old Honduran national arrested in connection with the brutal assault of a 14-year-old girl and the repeated stabbing of a man during a robbery in Kenner, La.

Castellanos-Orellana was encountered by Border Patrol in Eagle Pass, Texas and released by the Biden-Harris Administration into the country despite the fact that he claimed to have no credible fear of being returned to his native country. Castellanos-Orellana was released with a Notice to Appear in immigration court on an "Order of Release on own Recognizance" due to a "lack of space," with instructions to report to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in New Orleans. However, the Biden-Harris DHS's own data show that there was in fact space to detain the illegal alien instead of releasing him.

Just months after being released at the southwest border by the Biden-Harris Administration, Castellanos-Orellana was arrested by police in Kenner, Louisiana, for the brutal assault of a 14-year-old girl and the stabbing of a man during a robbery. He was charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery, first-degree rape, and aggravated assault for the two incidents. ICE lodged a detainer with the Kenner Police Department Jail, but no records in Castellanos-Orellana’s file indicate that ICE ever took him into custody.

The disastrous immigration policies of the Biden-Harris Administration have had real-world consequences for American citizens. The effects of those policies will be felt for years to come, with criminal aliens in American neighborhoods harming families and hurting public safety across the country. Castellanos-Orellana's victims and their families will never be the same because the Biden-Harris Administration allowed the illegal alien to enter and remain in the country. Tragically, Castellanos-Orellana's victims and their families are not alone.
