Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings has announced, effective immediately, Richard Giroux has been terminated from his position as Hillsboro Safety Service Director. Giroux is currently considering a 90-day administrative contract offered by the mayor, according to a news release from the mayor.

During their monthly meeting, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) reviewed economic development proposals brought to the board by JobsOhio and its regional partners. Together the projects are expected to result in more than $141 million in new payroll and spur approximately $169 million in investment across Ohio.

Two Adams County men were arrested Sunday by the Hillsboro Police Department after they failed to leave a North West Street business.

On Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2:11 p.m., Greenfield police officers responded to a residence on Waddell Street in Greenfield, on a report of an armed suicidal male.

Jason R. Calhoun, 29, of Greenfield was found changing clothes in the back seat of the car. The stolen merchandise was located in the car.

Highland County residents using the Rocky Fork Lake sewerage system will be seeing an increase in the cost of services beginning next year. The Highland County Board of Commissioners voted, 3-0, at their Wednesday, Dec. 5 meeting to raise the sewerage fees from $29 per month to $33.50 per month, a 16-percent increase.

The Highland County Grand Jury handed down a Summons on Indictment on former Highland County Clerk of Court employee, Bobbie J. Kirschner, on Dec. 4, on one count of theft, a felony of the fifth degree; and tampering with records, a felony of the third degree.

On Tuesday, Dec. 4 at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Hillsboro Police Department received a call from an employee at Sherwood Auto and Camper. The employee stated that they had campers that had been broken into and were currently talking with suspects. The employee then stated that she believed one suspect had a gun.

Hunters enjoyed great weather as they harvested 86,964 white-tailed deer during Ohio’s traditional week-long deer-gun season, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The harvest yielded an anticipated slight decrease of 3.7 percent from 2011, when 90,282 deer were checked.

A Cincinnati TV station is reporting that a section of Route 41 near Peebles has been closed after reports of gunshots. WKRC Channel 12 (www.local12.com) said Adams County officials closed down a section of state Route 41 as they search for someone who is firing shots at cars.
