We need more Good Samaritans

To the editor:
As you know from past submissions, I am a great fan of The Highland County Press.
With all the gloom and doom and negative remarks I've read, I have to add my voice and appreciation to the Highland County Press. The two businessmen who were good Samaritans to the Hillsboro Vietnam veteran should be given a special medal for their kindness. As the daughter of a Korean War veteran, my father, Otto J. Hatfield, I know what it is to
respect those who, willingly, have put their lives on the line for the rest of us. Honestly, my full understanding came Aug. 12, 2006 when my father was laid to rest with full military honors.
For Mr. Gehring and in memory of my father, Otto J. Hatfield, thank you for your service to us and our country.
To Mr. Meade and Mr. Strickland, I wish there were more people out there like you, like my neighbors, Dawn and Mick Smith, who would do anything for you, too.
Again, thank you, God bless you, and I hope others learn from your example and not wait until it's too late to tell you how much we do appreciate you.
Adding my respect,
Rhonda Doyle
