SWCD grateful for all those who supported May 4 levy

To the editor:
The Highland Soil and Water Conservation District supervisors and staff and the members of the Friends of Conservation Committee would like to take a moment and thank you for the support and effort you gave toward passing the Conservation Levy. Whether you contributed financially, helped place yard signs in your neighborhood, showed support by writing a letter, or took the time to explain the
importance of the SWCD to your neighbors and family, please know that we really appreciate your efforts and could not have even began this endeavor without people like you.
While we fell short on passing the levy, we were certainly encouraged in many ways by the acts of kindness and support shown by so many people in the community during the campaign. Clearly, this is a difficult time in our county, and even though the levy failed, we take pride in the fact of knowing that the Highland SWCD has many supporters like yourself who strongly support the mission and work of the SWCD. For this, we are very grateful.
Short of any changes in the current budget, the supervisors and staff will be faced with some difficult decisions as to the future of the Highland SWCD. While we are certain these decisions will have negative effects, please be assured that the SWCD supervisors and staff will continue to provide as high a level of service as possible and do what is best to protect the natural resources of Highland County.
History tells us that some of the best ideas and opportunities are born during the most difficult times. We are all hopeful that new ideas and opportunities will come forward that will help the SWCD become more sustainable for the future. We need help from individuals like you to bring new ideas and opportunities to the table. If you have any thoughts or ideas on ways we can make the SWCD more
sustainable, please share them with us.
Again, we are forever grateful for the help and support you gave us. We know that you realize how important the SWCD is to the community. We are hopeful that "Ohio's First Conservation District" can survive this difficult time and remain the "Number One District" in the state for many years to come.
Thank you!
The Highland SWCD Supervisors and Staff, Friends of Conservation Committee
