A message to city government and businesses

To the Editor:
I have been told lately that there is a possibility of discrimination against those who have opposed the fire inspections. I had an online version that citizens could electronically sign. I have since disabled it to hopefully stop this persecution. I have made backups of all the online elements and copies if litigation were ever needed.
Unfortunately, now I have to make a call to action. This administration of our city government is steadfast on setting their own course. They do not take into account what is best for the city nor do they respond to the voices of the citizens. The only thing that seems to get their attention is money. Unfortunately, we as citizens can’t stop paying our taxes, but there are steps that can be taken.
I am calling on all businesses to stop giving price breaks to the city. The city requires services and supplies that are provided by other businesses. It's time to stop giving the “buddy” rates. Don’t price yourself out of business, but provide the rack rates.
In addition to the businesses, there are organizations and foundations which provide donations each year. This is the year to STOP. There are many, many other people, places and things that would be much better off with your donation at this time.
Once things begin to turn around, we can then provide the support we once did and hopefully even more. The message needs to be heard and more importantly - understood. The message is:
“We are the citizens of Hillsboro. You are to do business in a matter which reflects our desires as a whole. You must conduct business within the financial means that you are provided. All of which should be done in a reasonable, ethical and considerate manner.”
