Local mother thanks community for generosity and thoughtfulness

To the editor:
Once again, I ask that you give me the opportunity to say thank you to those who have touched my heart over the past holiday season.
However, this time I want to say thank you to the kind individuals that brought a peace and a touch of kindness to my  heart and to our family. I had written to you prior to Christmas to speak to a very heartless individual, but this time, I write to the many of you that placed poinsettias and the beautiful blanket of evergreens and red ribbons on my son's grave. I will never be able to express the feelings that I felt when I visited Zach's grave on Christmas Eve and found it covered in poinsettias and evergreens. It was beautiful.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the kind lady that sent the money to replace the poinsettias. The money will be deposited in the PFC Zachary R. Gullett Scholarship Trust to go towards a scholarship to be awarded to a Hillsboro High School senior, this spring, who has an interest in pursuing a career in criminal justice. The kindness that was demonstrated by the citizens of our community on Christmas Eve far outweigh the cruelness of one.
Sincerely,
Connie Gullett
Proud mother of PFC Zachary Gullett
