Highland County is a wonderful place!
To the editor:
I want to thank the people of Highland County for giving me the chance to work for them. I have worked with the Highland County Extension office for over 23 years and I couldn’t have asked to have had a better career. My time here has been very positive and I have enjoyed working with so many wonderful people and staff through the years. I have learned a great deal during my time here.
I came as a very “green” 28-year-old and had many people nurture and assist with my development into a full career. My career now takes on another adventure. I will be working statewide with Community Development education and assisting Ohioans’ to develop their skills and capacities to enhance our State.
I would like to thank the wonderful staff members I have worked with through the years. The staff of John Grimes, Libby McNeal, Dawna Jo Kiesling, Patty Cummings, a great volunteer that comes in the office twice a week Ray Koch, Karen Miller (who left when the budget become extremely tight), Nikki Eyre, who retired in 2009, and the many other staff members that have worked with me. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with through the years.
Not only were they dedicated to their jobs, but they gave it their all. I consider all of them my family.  I would like to thank all the County Commissioners I have worked with through the 23 years. All of them have seen the value and were wonderful supporters of the Extension program.
I have gained so many wonderful friends in Highland County through the years that are priceless. There is nothing better than to see a young 4-Her grow into a beautiful, productive adult. You are very fortunate Highland County to have some of the very best youth in the state. They are very hardworking caring youth that learn to give back to their communities as adults.
I encourage everyone to continue to support the good things the OSU Extension, Highland County is doing and be patient with them because they have one-third of the staff they had two years ago. All of us have faced
very tough times and as the old saying goes “This too shall pass.” Our economy is slowly stabilizing and we will all be better for the lessons we have learned during these adverse times.
I would also like to thank everyone for their prayers, support, food, and acts of kindness my family and I have received with the passing of my father on December 19, 2010. During this very difficult time so many people have
been wonderful. I am thankful that friends are always there to put a smile on my face.
Well, Highland County, so long for now!  Thanks to each and every one of you who have enriched my life! I appreciate the support you have given me and the opportunity to work for you. I trust you to continue to support
Highland County Extension to make a difference in the lives of the Highland County individuals and families now and in the future to keep Highland County a wonderful place to raise a family. It has truly been a pleasure and privilege knowing and working with each of you!
All of you have a very special place in my heart!
Best regards,
Rose Fisher Merkowitz
