Chamber president clarifies stance on legislative issues

To the editor:
While the Highland County Chamber of Commerce and the Ohio Chamber of Commerce are affiliated and have a close working relationship in order to keep our local business community members educated and informed on legislative issues, the Ohio Chamber does not speak for our local Chamber.
The Highland County Chamber of Commerce is directed by a local Board of Directors comprised of business leaders throughout the county.
Issue 2 was discussed at the recent Highland County Chamber Board of Directors meeting. The board's consensus was that this Chamber, the Highland County Chamber of Commerce, will continue to educate and encourage our members to be informed on the issues that affect their particular business or organization; however, as general practice we will not endorse specific legislative positions.
More importantly, we strongly encourage our members to be a part of the process by using their informed vote to make a positive difference in local, state and national issues.
Over the past year, we have taken great strides to provide our membership with regularly scheduled informal legislative forums to meet and have candid discussions with our local and state representatives. We invite anyone interested in learning more about legislative issues to contact the Highland County Chamber of Commerce at 937-393-1111.
