Another anti-Obama tirade?

To the editor:
Another week and another anti-president Obama tirade by Gary Lewis.

In this week's column, Lewis says, "I read somewhere that some of Obama's stimulus checks were paid to prisoners" and he goes on to say that the President, "talked to financiers as if they were inmates."

As usual, Lewis feels free to use any rumor that serves his purpose to blast our president and, in my opinion, many of the Wall Street financiers President Obama was addressing should be inmates instead of free to continue pillaging the economy for obscene personal gain.

Lewis goes on to pretty much blame President Obama for our humongous national debt. Does anyone recall him mentioning the simple fact that his hero President Reagan added more to the national debt that all previous presidents combined and that another Republican

president (George Bush) accomplished the same feat while the only balanced budgets in modern times were submitted by Democratic presidents?

The hypocrisy of the fringe right was graphically demonstrated not long ago when the tea party, which Lewis so enthusiastically supports, protested President Obama's decision to stop wasting money on a useless return to the moon and to turn shuttling supplies to and from the space station over to private industry. Aren't both these moves exactly what the tea party supposedly is pushing for? If G.W. Bush had made the same decisions I can visualize Gary and other tea party types singing his praises. In his article, Lewis said, "the only way to reduce the deficit without raising taxes is to cut programs". Strange how Mr. Lewis overlooks it when our President does exactly that isn't it?

Anyone else think that it is ironic that someone so anti democratically elected government is a government employee? In my opinion many of our countries problems can be traced back to putting people who despise government in charge of it, starting with Ronald Reagan who regularly put people dedicated to destroying various agencies in charge of them.

Since taking office President Obama has largely restored worldwide respect for the United States that was all but destroyed by President G.W. Bush, ended the free fall of the economy caused by deregulation and reinstitution of Reagonomics, replaced job losses of several hundred a month with job gains, actually got a health care reform bill that previous presidents (including three Republicans) efforts failed to accomplish, salvaged a large portion of our remaining manufacturing base, and given us a leader who we can look at with pride to replace one who was often a national embarrassment. With all that one would think that Lewis might at least bring himself to use the term president when referring to our democratically elected leader.

Sincerely,

Charles Leach
