Lady Tigers soccer team finishes regular season on 3-game winning streak

The McClain varsity girls soccer team defeated Westfall 11-1 Wednesday on senior night in Greenfield, and Luca Matesic and Kaitlyn Jett showed their senior leadership, scoring eight of their team’s 11 goals in the contest.
Matesic was awesome on the offensive side of the ball, scoring a game-high five goals and fellow senior Jett added three more in the lopsided Lady Tiger victory, which made it three straight wins to end the regular season.
“It was a great senior night,” McClain head coach Blain Bergstrom said, “Our two seniors, Luca Matesic and Kaitlyn Jett, scored eight of our team’s 11 total goals tonight.
“Luca had five and Kaitlyn scored three, which were career highs for both girls,so that’s some awesome stuff. It was also the most goals we’ve scored in a game all year, and it came just one day after we scored 10 against Peebles.”
The win also improves McClain’s overall record on the season to an impressive 9-4-3, which is thought to be a new school record for girls’ soccer at McClain.
“We are 8-1-2 in our last 11 games, and I think our girls are starting to play better and are coming together at the right time, and we’re not done yet,” said Bergstrom. “I told our girls that we’ve had an outstanding season so far, but now it’s tournament time, and that’s when everything needs to really amp up heading into next Thursday game at Warren High School.
“Our girls have played a lot of unselfish soccer over these last couple of games, and everyone on the team has got to play several minutes and are having a lot of fun, and that’s really what it’s all about.
“We know Warren is a really good team, and it will be a huge challenge, but our girls seem to be peaking at the right time and I hope and feel we really are,” Bergstrom continued.
