BAINBRIDGE — High school football made a return Thursday evening at Paint Valley High School, with the Bearcats hosting their seventh annual 7-on-7 "Under the Lights" event.
Paint Valley welcomed four other high schools to the event, Hillsboro, Huntington, Fayetteville and East Clinton, to George Knisley Memorial Field in preparation for the upcoming season.
Paint Valley and Huntington are members of the Scioto Valley Conference, while Hillsboro and East Clinton play in the South Central Ohio League. Fayetteville is a member of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, a conference where only two of their member schools have football.
"For us football guys, any time you can get schools together to play under the lights, it is a lot of fun," Paint Valley head coach Pete Hollon said of the event.
The non-contact event is a rotation where each team faced each other for a pre-determined amount of time, as each team took snaps on both offense and defense.
Though the event was non-contact, players and coaches use this event in a variety of ways.

"I really like our speed right now," Hollon said. "We have good numbers, and we're playing a lot of kids from the JV level. We had a lot of kids make plays, and the thing is, we've only had one night outside because of the storms the last few days.
"We're just tickled where we're at right now as far as play recognition on both sides of the football."
Hillsboro head coach Matt Hodge also spoke about his players and their play at the event. Hodge is in his first season at HHS, taking over a program that went winless the previous season. Last season, Hodge coached at East Clinton.
"This was our fourth day together, and Mother Nature canceled at least a day and a half of that for us," Hodge said. "I really like where our attitude and work ethic is at right now. We have a lot of stuff that we need to work on, but we have a good foundation."
Being in the same boat as Hillsboro, East Clinton is entering the season with a new head coach. Now coaching the Astros is Bill Hrabak.

"This was the first time the guys were really running the offense," Hrabak said. "Since I'm getting to know the kids and coaching staff right now, this is the first time they (the coaches) are seeing the guys out there.
"From an evaluation process, you want to see how they move on the field and see what they need to work on. We need to see where we need to improve from now to Aug. 1 when we get onto the football field (for two-a-days)."
