Steward qualifies for Div. II State Cross-Country Championships

Hillsboro junior De-Andre Steward has raced his way to the 2013 Division II State Track and Field Championships.

Steward placed 10th overall in the Division II Regionals at Pickerington North High School, Saturday, with a time of 17:00.72. Steward's average mile time was 5:28.6.

There were 128 runners in the race.

The winner of the regional event was Matt Bromley, a senior, of Sheridan at 16:01.99.

[[In-content Ad]]Last week, Steward was eighth place in the districts with a time of 17:22 and two weeks ago he won the South Central Ohio League championship with a time of 16:47.

Steward is the first HHS cross-country runner to make the state championships since Collin Rothwell in 2011.

Steward will run in the '13 Division II State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2 in  Hebron at the National Trail Raceway. Steward will compete in the Division II boys race at 2:15 p.m.
