SCOL honors top performers and teams from spring season

WASHINGTON C.H. — On Tuesday, the 2011 South Central Ohio League honored the best from the spring season, with athletes and artists from all seven schools being represented at a banquet held at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in Washington C.H.
Representing Highland County in boys tennis was Reese Leibreich (HHS), who was first team.
In baseball, Hillsboro's Aric Carroll, A.J. Heltebrand and Paul Snyder, and McClain's Jacob Dillon and Zach Uhl, were named first team. Second team was Dustin Taylor (MHS).
The 2011 SCOL champion McClain Lady Tigers softball team, who were 11-1 in the league, received their championship trophy at the event, with four team members earning first team. Earning the first team honors were Kate Crabtree, Megan Dettwiller, Jenna Perie and Frankie Wise. Second team softball were Cierra Landrum and Brittany Mullikin of McClain. Hillsboro's Sara Ray was second team in softball.
In boys track & field, McClain's Luis Rivas (400-meter dash), Caleb Mootispaw (3200m run), and Hillsboro's Jarrod Hart (800m run) all received first team SCOL awards.
Second team all league in boys track & field were Zach Matracia (MHS, 100m dash), McClain's 4x200 relay (Matracia, Aaron Pryor, Rivas and Daniel White), McClain's 4x100m relay (Jordan Goble, Matracia, Pryor, and Seth Willman); Collin Rothwell (HHS, 3200m run) and Pryor (pole vault).
For the girls track & field season, first team all league from Highland County included: Leah Pence (HHS, 100m hurdles, pole vault), Felicity Peabody (MHS, 400m dash) and Taylor Faulconer (MHS, 300m hurdles).
Second team all league in girls track & field included: Hillsboro 4x800m relay (Maddie Colliver, Jamie Gustin, Hannah Opst and Bailey Patton) and Tara Karnes (MHS, discus throw, shot put).
In the SCOL art show, Hillsboro's Charlie Milligan was Reserve Best of Show. In digital photography, McClain's Rachael Bourne was honorable mention. In painting, Micaela Countryman (HHS) was fourth place. In ceramics, Hillsboro's Nick Trust was first place, and Alex Schaible (HHS) was fourth place. In crafts, Jamie Gustin (HHS) was first place, and Kayla Jackson was third place. In computer graphics, Jonathan Gillman (HHS) was second place. In print making, Dalhia Acord (HHS) was first place, Kalen Adler (HHS) was second place, Taylar Bell (HHS) was third place and Jonathan Gillman (HHS) was fourth place.
Teams in the SCOL include: Hillsboro, McClain, Washington, Miami Trace, London, Clinton-Massie and Madison-Plains.
In the final SCOL standings for the school year, Miami Trace and Washington were the all-sport champions tying with 81.5 points. The rest of the all-sport standing included: 3, Clinton-Massie (70.5); 4, London (65.0); 5, McClain (63.5); 6, Hillsboro (61.5) and 7, Madison-Plains (26.5).
