Mustangs shut out Indians, 4-0

Though the game was called with 11 minutes left in the match due to darkness, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs had the game well in hand, defeating Highland County rival Hillsboro, 4-0 Monday at LCHS.
For the Mustangs, their positive season continued as they gained their 11th win of the season. For HHS, they are still looking to earn their first win of the fall.
"The boys have played really good soccer for most of the year," LC coach Dennis West said. "The boys have played pretty solid in the 13 matches so far, and our defense had been playing very solid."
The shutout by LC was their fourth of the season.
LC scored two goals in each half.
The first goal for the Mustangs came with 29:29 left in the first half as Alex Pinkerton scored a goal with an assist by Gage Waits, who earned the assist with a header.
LC took a two-goal advantage when Noah Scott scored from 12 yards out with 17:27 left in the first half.
In the second half, LC had a goal from Tristan Wilbanks with 18:45 remaining in the match, and their final goal came with 18:09 on the clock by Scott, who kicked the ball at an angle to the left side of the goal, and it bounced back to the right side for the point.[[In-content Ad]]
The game was finally called due to darkness with 11:28 left in the match.
HHS had three yellow cards served to them in the match, including two in the first half.
"For the most part, we are still progressively passing the ball well, we just aren't finishing," HHS coach John Weber said. "We can only do that so long before it catches up to us.
"Lynchburg-Clay capitalized in front of the goal, and that's something we need to strive for."
The win by LC was West's 151st of his career as the boys head coach, as he gained his 150th win last Friday against Fairfield.
"That win was special because it came against a very good Fairfield team," West said. "That momentum carried over to (Monday), and hopefully it continues throughout the rest of the season.
"Our passing has been better up front, and that passing is what makes us a better team each time we take the field."
