Miles Burton steps down as Hillsboro boys varsity basketball coach

HILLSBORO — The Hillsboro Indians are losing their most recent varsity boys basketball head coach, as Miles Burton will not be returning to the Indians’ program next season.
Burton — who was the 32nd head coach in HHS boys program history — coached three seasons at Hillsboro, where he led the Indians to their first Frontier Athletic Conference (FAC) boys basketball co-championship, and the first league title of any sort in the boys program since 2012.
That same season, the Indians had a 14-game winning streak, with win No. 14 clinching the co-championship, a game where they defeated Miami Trace, 64-58 at MTHS.
In a message on Twitter Friday, Burton said the following:
“Thank you for the past three years. I have had the opportunity to work alongside some of the best people I have met in my life. This community took a chance on me as a 24-year-old first-time head coach, and the gratitude I have for that is difficult to put into words. Hillsboro is an amazing community, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
“To the current players and alumni, thank you for your dedication, commitment, effort and love. The things we accomplished on and off the court tie us together for life. Banners fly forever. Family on three.”
During their championship season of 2020-21, Burton’s Hillsboro team went 18-4 overall and was 9-1 in the FAC. In his three seasons as head coach for the Indians, Burton’s teams finished with a record above .500 at 37-30 overall, including two seasons of 10 or more wins.
Burton is a graduate of Blanchester High School, and before he was head coach for the Indians, Burton was an assistant coach at Goshen, Blanchester and in Kentucky.
