Miami Trace too strong as Indians fall to Panthers

The Miami Trace Panthers visited the Hillsboro Indians Friday night, and when the final buzzer sounded they returned to Fayette County with a Frontier Athletic Conference win, defeating the Indians, 64-43.
The score was close following the conclusion of the first quarter with the Panthers leading 6-2, as the Indians’ lone points were off a basket by Dorian Stewart, while the Panthers had their six points scored by Drew Guthrie.
The Indians scored 17 points in the second frame, but the issue was the Panthers added 24 points to the away side of the scoreboard for a 30-19 halftime lead.
In the second frame, Miami Trace built a 15-4 lead with 5:50 left in the quarter, and though HHS did score their 17 points in the frame, the Panthers never relinquished the lead, building an 11-point halftime advantage.
For HHS in the second quarter, Tate Davis made a 3-pointer and two two-point baskets, while Steven Kibler scored eight points in the second quarter, including a 3-pointer, two two-point baskets and a made free throw. Also in the second for HHS, Stewart made a basket for two points.
By the time the third quarter came to a close, it was Miami Trace extending their lead to 15 points at 48-33 with the Panthers outscoring Hillsboro 18-14. Nic Burns and Brogen Priest each sank a 3-pointer in the third for the Indians, while Davis, Kibler, Stewart and Deegan Bloomfield each scored two points in the third frame.
HHS added 10 points to their side of the scoreboard in the fourth quarter, with Burns making two baskets for four points, Bieler with two points and Stewart with four points.
For the game, the Indians were led in scoring by Kibler with 12 points, while Stewart scored 10 points. Also for the Indians, final scoring included Davis (nine), Burns (seven), Priest (three) and Bloomfield (two).
The Indians finished 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.
For Miami Trace, they were led in the scoring column by Guthrie with 18 points, while Isaiah Reisinger scored 15 points, Bryson Osborne totaled 11 points and Coleden May scored 10 points.
Other MTHS scoring included Shay Salyers (two), Brady Armstrong (five) and Holden Hunter (three). The Panthers finished 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.
The win moves Miami Trace to 6-1 in the FAC and 12-1 overall. The Indians fall to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in the FAC.
Next for HHS is an away non-conference game at Grandle Gymnasium against the Fairfield Lions on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
