Lady Mustangs win on road against Hillsboro

HILLSBORO — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs visited Hillsboro High School Saturday afternoon and defeated the host Lady Indians by a 58-33 score in their non-conference Highland County showdown.
LCHS never trailed in the victory over HHS, as they held a 6-0 lead three minutes into the game with 3-pointers from Macy Etienne and Addison West. Following two points by Hillsboro’s Blake Herdman, LCHS sank a third 3-pointer of the quarter, this one by Etienne, for a 9-2 lead with 3:34 on the clock.
HHS came back with a free throw made by Peighton Bledsoe, but the Lady Mustangs answered with a free throw by West and later a jumper from Allie Waits. HHS ended the first frame with two points from Kallie Fraley.
The Lady Mustangs outscored Hillsboro 18-10 in the second quarter for a 30-15 halftime lead, with five LCHS players reaching the scoring column in the frame. West sank another 3-pointer in the second (along with a two-point bucket), while Bry Price added five points in the frame. Ella Barry scored two buckets in the second for four points, and Etienne scored two points in the second.
Hillsboro had four points from Bledsoe and two points each by Kobie Miles, Rylie Scott and Addyson Miles in the second frame.
LCHS took more control of the game in the third quarter as they came out of the locker room after halftime and scored 13 points, while they held Hillsboro to five points for a 43-20 lead.
The third frame for the Lady Mustangs saw them dominate with Price scoring four baskets in the quarter for eight points, while Etienne sank a 3-pointer and Jade Massey scored a basket.
HHS had two points each from Addyson Miles and Maddie Taylor and one point by Herdman in the third.
The fourth quarter had both teams combine for 28 points with LCHS outscoring HHS, 15-13.
Massey had seven points for the Lady Mustangs in the fourth, while West added four points and with two points each were Joslyn Rockey and Barry.
Hillsboro in the fourth had one 3-pointer each from Scott, Kyra Boyd and Herdman, while Fraley and Kobie Miles each scored two points.
LCHS was led in scoring by West and Price with 13 points each, followed by Etienne with 11 points and Massey with nine. Other final totals for LCHS included Rockey (two), Waits (four) and Barry (six).
Hillsboro’s leading scorer was Herdman with six points, followed by Bledsoe and Scott with five points each. Scoring four points in the game were Kobie Miles, Addyson Miles and Fraley. Boyd totaled three points, and Taylor rounded out the scoring totals with two points.
HHS finished 4-of-8 from the free-throw line, and the Lady Mustangs were 3-of-6.
