Lady Indians shut out rival McClain

GREENFIELD — After a slow start, the Hillsboro Lady indians did what they have been doing most of the season during South Central Ohio League games, defeating cross-county rival McClain, 8-0 at McClain Field.
In their first away game of the year, HHS scored four goals in each half.
"We passed the ball a little bit better, and we were overall in better shape, " said coach Leslie Molen.
"Greenfield is more organized, and that made it easier for us to get to the ball. They (MHS) are improving game-to-game and season-to-season."
HHS senior Lauren Colliver scored first with 24:09 on an 18-yard kick.
It was a sister act early on in the first half for HHS when freshman Madison Colliver netted a goal with 23:37 for a 2-0 HHS lead.
Hillsboro (3-1) continued to increase its lead with a goal by junior Hailey McCoppin with 14:45 left in the half.
The final first half goal came with 41.3 seconds left with junior Leah Pence from 8 yards out.
The Lady Indians scored quickly to start the second half at the 38:15 mark, followed with a goal from Pence at the 19:25 mark of the second half, 25 yards out.
Lauren Grimes, a junior, made the score 7-0 with a goal with 12:21 left in the game.
The final goal for HHS came with 2:38 when junior Hailey Wiseman put the ball into the back of the goal.
The Lady Indians have played zero non-league games this season.
As for McClain (1-1, 2-2) they had some opportunities to score goals but came up just short, but coach Darrell Upp said he liked what he saw from his team.
"I was pleased with the second half," he said. "We don't have a deep bench, and our girls were tired. We put pressure on Pence and Colliver, so I was pleased with that.
"We are growing as a team. I wish the score was a little different, but I was pleased with the effort. Three of the four goals in the second half were gifts, we were out of position."
McClain is playing a tough SCOL schedule while trying to improve as a team.
"We are a young team, but we are continually maturing at the varsity level. They are learning how to play at this level, and we are improving with each game. I am pleased with how the girls stepped up against a talented Hillsboro team."
MHS will host London on Tuesday.
HHS is off next week due to the Highland County Fair.
