Lady Indians shut out by Clinton-Massie; 1st loss of season

As expected, the Hillsboro Lady Indians and the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons forced great effort from each other for 80 minutes, but for CM, they achieved just a little bit more as they defeated host Hillsboro, 2-0 Tuesday evening at Richards Memorial Field.
This was the first game in over a week for the Lady Indians as they missed all of last week due to the Highland County Fair, and head coach Leslie Molen said not having games did affect her team.
"The biggest difference of this game, and this is my opinion, was Clinton-Massie played a quality schedule last week and we had the week off with just practices," she said. "We had practice every day, but not everyone was at practices at the same time."
Molen credited Clinton-Massie, who are in first place in the South Central Ohio League standings, on their speed.
"They had more team speed than we did, but both teams were equally skilled, and the shots we took went wide. We didn't clean our mistakes up, and CM had more desire and intensity than we did.
"Our schedule hurt us."
For the Lady Falcons, both of their goals came from Megan Frederick scoring one goal in each half.

Frederick's first goal came as she broke away eight possession of the ball from about 30-35 yards away from the goal. With one HHS defender around her, Frederick kicked the ball in the opposite direction of the keeper, landing in the left side of the net for a 1-0 lead with 39:25.
The second goal for Frederick and the Lady Falcons also came early in the half, with the goal from around 10-15 yards away to the right side to the goal scored with 38:39 remaining in the match.
HHS (2-1, SCOL) had chances in each half to tie the match, but their shots were off target, going in a variety of directions. Also, a cause for the shutout of HHS was the defensive play of the Lady Falcons as their defense kept HHS from taking clear shots throughout the match.
"The girls played better in the second half," Molen said. "Our substitutes came in and played well, but we just couldn't score goals."
HHS keeper Rachel Sexton finished with nine saves. The Lady Indians took 18 shots at goal and eight shots on goal in the loss.
"The shots we took went wide, and we never could correct that," Molen said.
HHS will play again on Thursday in SCOL play as they will host the Miami Trace Lady Panthers in Hillsboro.
