Lady Indians honor seniors; fall to Miami Trace

The Hillsboro Lady Indians honored their senior class before the match, but lost their final home match of the season, falling in four games to the Miami Trace Lady Panthers, Tuesday in South Central Ohio League play.
HHS won the second game of the evening by a 28-26 score, but their three losses came by scores of 25-13, 25-6 and 25-4.
Seniors that were honored were Whitlee Price, Bailey Patton, Lily Marshall, Cailin Wehrung, Megan Overberg and Savannah Cameron.
"I'm proud of the seniors," HHS coach Amy Vance said. "The team has improved since the start of the year, and they compete at a different level. We have a great group of seniors.
"They are a positive group … there is no complaining, no drama and they worked well together."
As for the second game, it was tied a total of 11 times, including 10 times when the score was in double figures at 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 20, 22, 24, 25 and 26.
"The difference in the second game compared to the others was we were able to break their serves," Vance said. "The second game was our best by far.
"In the other games, we weren't given a chance to show what we can do."
The second game saw HHS jump out to a 6-2 advantage with points by Cameron on an ace and a spike by Madison Snyder.
Later in the game, Wehrung helped HHS gain a lead of 10-6, but MT rallied to tie the score at 10 and 11, then later at 13 and 14, but HHS regained the lead with another point by Wehrung and a service point by Marshall for a 16-14 advantage.

With the score moving to a tie at 17 as game two progressed, the Lady Indians eventually moved to a 19-17 advantage with Overberg smashing the ball to MT territory.
MT eventually took a 22-20 advantage, but HHS rallied for a 22-22 score and a 24-20 advantage. Again, MT took the lead at 14, but as mentioned previously, the Lady Indians battled for a 25-25 and 26-26 tied score. HHS eventually won the second game when MT hit the ball out of play for point 27, and the final point was scored off a power hit by Snyder. To continue the game, Cameron had a game-saving dig.
The other three games were all MT as they outscored HHS, 75-23.
The highlight of game one was the serving of Miami Trace's Mariah Mace, who had four straight points off serves that put the visitors ahead 21-12, and later, the first game ended with Morgan Wyckoff bouncing the ball off a HHS player for the 25th point.
Game three was all Mace as she had 18 consecutive service points, including 11 aces in the streak of MT points. At one time in game three, the score was tied at 6-6, but once MT scored the go-ahead seventh point, they collected 19 straight points total. Also a part of the scoring when it didn't come from the serves of Mace was Wyckoff to make it an 18-6 advantage and Katie Frost, whose point made the scoreboard read 22-6.
Game four went quickly as MT dominated the final game of the match as it was tied just once at 1-1. Chandlee Harris scored the final two points on aces for the Lady Panthers, and also helping with their scoring were Sam Ritenheur, Wyckoff, Frost and Mace.
HHS will play in their sectional tournament game on Monday at Washington Senior High School as they face the Lady Blue Lions.
