Lady Indians fall to Miami Trace

WASHINGTON C.H. — The Hillsboro Lady Indians tennis team dropped their second South Central Ohio League match of the season, falling to the Miami Trace Lady Panthers by a 4-1 score.
Hillsboro is playing without their top player for the season as senior Brooke Hall will miss the season due to an injury. Hall played for the Lady Indians since the ninth grade.
"Losing Brooke was a big hit for us," HHS head coach LaRue Turner said. "She tried her best to play this season but just wasn't able to recover to play to her abilities."
On Monday vs. MT, the lone HHS win came in third singles as Vanessa McGinnis defeated Miami Trace's Bethany Reiterman in straight sets at 6-0, 6-2.
HHS junior Alexis Sears lost to Miami Trace senior Josie Cobb, 0-6, 0-6 in first singles.
Also in singles play for the Lady Indians, sophomore Emily Shanahan fell 1-6, 2-6 to Abbie Noble of MT in second.[[In-content Ad]]
In doubles play, HHS lost both first and second doubles. In first doubles, Kaitlin Whiting and Bree Opst fell to Abby Schwenk and Haylee Higgins. In second doubles, Brittany Manning and Kacy Frederick lost to the Lady Panther duo of Laura Finn and Caroline Hughes.
Thus far this season, the Lady Indians are 0-2 in the SCOL as they've also lost to the Washington Lady Blue Lions. This past Saturday, HHS earned their first win of the season, defeating Wheelersburg for an overall record of 1-4 overall.
Turner also spoke about how every player on the Lady Indians has to play up a level this season, a team that now has no seniors on the court for '13.
"Everyone is learning to play at a level higher than they are used to," the HHS head coach said. "We'll be all right. We just have to continue to work hard and improve.
"We have lots of sophomores, and they are girls who were a part of the summer tennis program. The sophomores are coming along."
