Lady Indians drop close game to Western Brown

The Hillsboro Lady Indians are getting close in games this season but just haven't found the winning formula to pull away from their opponents late in games, falling to the Western Brown Lady Broncos, 55-52 Monday.
The home non-league loss for HHS moves them to 1-4 overall on the season.
For HHS in the fourth, they were within three points of tying the score at 49-46 with 5:02 left in regulation. Though HHS gave up two more points with 4:19 left on the scoreboard, the HHS duo of Hannah Kibler and Trista Rhodes tied the score at 51-51.
The tying points were first from Kibler (off a bounce by Kaylynn Bell) and a 3-pointer from Rhodes on the left side of the 3-point line with 1:26 left in regulation.
Kibler finished the game with eight points, while Rhodes totaled five. Kibler also had five rebounds and three assists. Rhodes added seven assists, three steals and a blocked shot.
From there, WB regained the lead with two free throws from Lindsey Harvey, but the two-point lead was cut in half with a free-throw conversion from Bell with 1:02 on the clock. Harvey led all scorers with a game-high 17 points.
Bell led HHS with a team-high 16 points. The junior also had five rebounds, five assists and one blocked shot.
Both teams has more opportunities in the final minute to add to their totals, but shots wouldn't fall, as the Lady Indians were forced to foul, and WB hit 2-of-4 free throws attempted in the final six seconds of the game.
HHS had the ball on the final possession, but a long in-bounds pass was intercepted by WB.
"We had a nice start to the game, but we are struggling to find consistency," HHS head coach JR Moberly said. "We have lapses … after we build a lead, we let our opponents back in.
"We need to be more consistent with our decision-making process. It isn't a selfish thing, it is we get excited and take the shots before they are ready to be taken."[[In-content Ad]]
In the first quarter, the Lady Indians at one point led by a 14-6 score with 3:26 remaining. In that span, Kibler was first to score with a layup with an assist from Faith Middleton.
Later, Kibler sank a jumper, and with 5:07 left in the quarter, Bell knocked down a 3-pointer for a 7-4 advantage. Bell then assisted Rhodes on a fast break play as HHS eventually put together a 8-2 run, ending with a jumper by Middleton for five-point lead. Middleton finished with eight points, three assists and a block.
From there, the Lady Broncos outscored HHS, 10-4 in the final 3:00 of the first quarter.
HHS led at halftime 30-27 and trailed 43-42 after three quarters.
Also scoring for HHS was Madison Snyder with nine points and five rebounds. Kirsten Juillerat added six points for HHS.
"We had kids who shot the ball well, and they are giving themselves a shot to win games," Moberly said. "I've got to figure out a way for those wins to happen … I have to get it done."
HHS will play again on Wednesday when they travel to Fayette County to take on the Miami Trace Lady Panthers in a South Central Ohio League game.
