EBER — The second match this season for the Hillsboro Lady Indians mirrored their first effort from last Saturday, except this win had more goals and crisper play.
In their South Central Ohio League opener, the Lady Indians did what they needed to do to get the win, defeating the Miami Trace Lady Panthers 7-0 Tuesday at Panther Stadium on the campus of Miami Trace High School.
Hillsboro led 4-0 after the first half and scored three more times in the second half to move to 2-0 overall on the season and 1-0 in the SCOL.
"We played really well on the small field," HHS coach Leslie Molen, who gained her 97th career coaching win, said. "We had good movement, passed well and shot the ball much better.
"We had the girls play more in front of the net, and we finished with through passes closer to the net."
The top performer of the game was sophomore Madison Colliver, who gained a hat-trick, scoring three goals, two in the first half.
The first Lady Indian goal came less than two minutes into the first half with Trista Rhodes scoring first at the 38:36 mark, with the assist to Colliver.
Almost 19 minutes later, Colliver scored a goal (20:08), increasing the HHS lead to two goals.
At the 18:40 mark of the opening 40 minutes, Kaylynn Bell gave Hillsboro a 3-0 lead, kicking the ball at an angle from the right side of the field, sending it to the left side of the goal. Her goal was assisted by Gabby Sugden.
The Lady Indian dominance continued in the second half with Colliver gaining the hat-trick, scoring within the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Sugden added to her earlier assist with a goal, making the score 6-0 in favor of the visiting team.
The seventh and final goal came with 10:16 remaining as Haley McCoppin scored on a kick, with the assist to Kayla Deatley.
Sara Sexton had two saves at keeper for HHS.
The 2-0 Lady Indians will host the Washington Lady Blue Lions on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 6:45 p.m. at Richards Memorial Field.[[In-content Ad]]
