Lady Indians defeat McClain

GREENFIELD — The Hillsboro Lady Indians won in the South Central Ohio League for the second time this week by defeating the McClain Lady Tigers, 9-1 Thursday at McClain Field.
The win over the Lady Tigers puts HHS at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the SCOL, as their other league win came Tuesday at Washington with an 11-0 win over the Lady Blue Lions.
"We knew we could come in and flex our muscles, but we came in and wanted to work on a few things," HHS head coach Leslie Molen said. "We had a good effort, and we just want to continue to get better.
"Credit McClain, their girls played hard and didn't quit."
Of the nine goals scored by the Lady Indians, five came in the first half, and the final four came in the second 40-minute period.[[In-content Ad]]
Cheyney Myers, Hope Tira and Trista Rhodes each scored two goals with Rhodes's two goals coming at the 32:23 and 28:20 marks of the first half, making the score 3-0 at the time. The first goal of the game was by Myers.
Also scoring one goal each in the game for the Lady Indians were Mallori Sluss, Kaylynn Bell and Madison Colliver.
The lone MHS goal came with 27:41 left in the second half as Taylor Polley took the ball downfield and kicked the ball into the back of the goal while under defensive pressure after the ball went past the keeper.
MHS has one win this season as they defeated Miami Trace Tuesday by a 3-2 score at McClain Field.
The next game for Hillsboro will be on Tuesday, Sept. 10 when the Lady Indians host the defending SCOL champion Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons at 7 p.m. at Richards Memorial Field.
MHS will play again on Monday, Sept. 9 when the Lady Tigers will face the Fairfield Lady Lions in non-league play.
Both teams have next week off due to the Highland County Fair.
