Indians test Pioneers, but fall in 2nd half

For the first half, the Hillsboro Indians played well enough to take the lead into the locker room at halftime, but the visiting Pioneers led the second half and for that won the game, defeating the Indians, 73-55.

The Saturday night loss by the Indians puts them at 3-6 overall, while keeping the Pioneers undefeated on the season.

For the first half of HHS, they trailed 23-14 following the first quarter, but they answered with an 18-8 second quarter for a 32-31 lead at halftime.

In the second quarter of HHS, Zach Young sank two 3-pointers and a jumper, while Austin Bagshaw made two two-point buckets and Captain scored three points in the quarter. Also for HHS in the second, Alex Van Zant scored two points.

In the second half for HHS, HHS was outscored 19-12 in the third quarter and 23-11 in the fourth frame.

Captain led HHS with 23 points, including 11-of-14 from the free-throw line. Young followed with 15 points (three 3-pointers).

Also for HHS, Bagshaw totaled seven points, with Van Zant and Latrell Haithcock each scoring four points. Trey Moberly rounded out the scoring with two points.

HHS went 13-of-17 from the free-throw line.

The score was tied five times, the final time being in the third quarter at 38-38.

ZT was led by Pierce Mowery with a game-high 30 points. Mowery made four 3-pointers.

The Pioneers were 16-of-23 and connected seven times from beyond the arc.
