Indians gain road win at Madison-Plains

MT. STERLING — The Hillsboro Indians got the job done in a big way on Friday night, gaining a valuable road and South Central Ohio League win over the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles, 67-48 at MPHS.

The win keeps the Indians in the driver's seat in the SCOL, still leading the standings at 8-2 in league play and 12-4 overall with two league games remaining.

HHS opened the game with a 17-11 lead over the host Golden Eagles (4-6, 7-10) and held onto the lead at the halfway point, taking a 32-21 advantage.

By the end of the third quarter, the Indians led 47-27, and in the fourth, HHS added 20 more points to their total score.


[[In-content Ad]]HHS was led by senior Tyrand Cumberland with a game-high 23 points, and senior Chase Gilliland followed with 13 points.

Junior Damon Gilispie led MP with 11 points, and junior Alex Williams followed with nine.

HHS will play a makeup game on Saturday against Highland County rival McClain at MHS. The game will also count in the SCOL standings.

Madison-Plains will play again on Tuesday, Feb. 7 when they host the Washington Blue Lions in SCOL play. On Friday, Washington defeated McClain, 40-38.
