Indians fall one goal short against Clinton-Massie

The Hillsboro Indians were able to tie the score, but just weren't able to take the lead or earn the win, as they fell to the Clinton-Massie Falcons, 2-1, in a South Central Ohio League match.
Hillsboro's loss at Richards Memorial Field puts the Indians at 0-4-1 overall, as this was their first match in over a week as they took a week off due to the Highland County Fair.
"Overall, I felt we played a much better game (Tuesday) than we did in our last game with Greenfield," HHS head coach John Weber said. "We played with more intensity, but our passing still has droughts."
The Indians trailed 1-0 at the half with Ethan Deaton scoring the first goal of the match with 24:30 left in the opening half.
HHS tied the score at 1-1 with 23:33 left in the second half with Kobe Curtis scoring on a penalty kick.
"Kobe had an excellent passing night, along with his goal," Weber said. "Also, first-year player Brandon Wildey had excellent pressure on the left side."
The Falcons took the lead for good with 14:54 off a kick across the net by Cameron Baker.[[In-content Ad]]
Hillsboro had numerous opportunities to score goals late, as they also made a change in their lineup by adding a forward and pulling a midfield position. They missed one opportunity with 17:92 left in the match, but in the final 10 minutes, the Indians had just one shot at goal with the Falcons making a big stop with 2:15 left in the match.
Weber said there were positives, even though the young Indians' team didn't earn the win.
"Maverick (Ward) had a heck of a game again at keeper," he said. "I have to stress we are a young team, but I'm happy with how we picked up the intensity in comparison to other games we've played.
"We just have to keep striving to get better. It seems our first half is always strong, but we start the second half flat."
HHS will host Miami Trace this Thursday.
