Indians end season with sectional final loss

The Hillsboro Indians just couldn't continue their season Saturday night, as they lost to the Fairland Dragons by a score of 51-36 at Southeastern High School in the Division II SE District Sectional finals.
HHS ends the season at 10-14 overall, with a postseason mark of 1-1 as they defeated Jackson in the postseason opener, a sectional semifinal matchup, also at SEHS.
Last season, Fairland defeated HHS in the postseason, 64-44.
On Saturday, the Indians led after the first quarter by a 12-11 score but just barely trailed at the halftime break at 19-18 as Fairland (15-6) outscored the Tribe 8-6 in the second quarter.
The second half didn't fare as well for the Indians, who were the away team, as they were outscored 32-18 in the final two quarters, scoring eight points in the third and 10 points in the fourth. Fairland scored 16 points in each of the final two frames, as there were a total of seven lead changes in the contest.

Jarrod Hart led the Indians in his final game, as the senior totaled 13 points, including one 3-pointer and a 6-of-8 performance from the free-throw line.
Jordan Captain followed with nine points, with eight in the first half.
Also scoring for the Indians were Latrell Haithcock and Zach Young with four points each, followed by Austin Bagshaw with three points and Reese Leibreich (a senior) with two points. Trey Moberly added one point.
HHS went 15-of-22 from the free-throw line, with one 3-pointer and 10 two-point baskets on the night.
For Fairland, they were led in scoring Cody Midkiff with 12 points. He was followed by Evan Maddox with 10 points and Chance Short with nine.
Fairland made two 3-pointers and went 17-of-31 from the free-throw line.
The Dragons (a No. 2 seed) will play again on Friday, March 1 when they face No. 3 seed Vinton County at 8 p.m. at the Convocation Center in Athens, on the campus of Ohio University.
